Three people convicted of manslaughter in connection with the deaths of two men in a high-speed car chase have had their appeals against conviction dismissed. Ameer Jamal, Sanaf Gulammustafa, and Natasha Akhtar had their bids to challenge their convictions refused at a Court of Appeal hearing on Tuesday.
The case stems from the deaths of Saqib Hussain and Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin, both 21, who were killed in February 2022 on the A46 in Leicestershire. They were ambushed in a Leicester car park by a group that included TikTok influencer Mahek Bukhari and her mother Ansreen Bukhari.
Jamal, Gulammustafa, and Akhtar were in one of the cars that pursued Mr Hussain and Mr Ijazuddin. Prosecutors had stated during a three-month murder trial at Leicester Crown Court that the victims' car was deliberately rammed off the road.
Mahek and Ansreen Bukhari, along with Rekhan Karwan and Raees Jamal, were convicted of murder. Ameer Jamal, Gulammustafa, and Akhtar were found guilty of manslaughter. Judges dismissed the appeals, stating that the questions put to the jury appropriately set out the matters for consideration, given the intent to inflict unlawful violence.
