The countdown is on for the Toast the City Awards 2026 – and it's game on! The shortlist has been announced, with a dazzling array of City of London hotspots vying for top honours in no fewer than 15 categories. From culinary titans to cultural icons, and from historic pubs to hip hangouts, every contender is a winner in our book.
This year's awards are the most competitive yet, with an expanded list of nominees that's set to thrill foodies, shopaholics, culture vultures, and pub enthusiasts alike. In 'Best Restaurant', Cloth, Bouchon Racine, Ibai, and Angler go head-to-head in a battle for gastronomic supremacy. Meanwhile, the 'Best Arts or Culture Experience' category throws up some intriguing pairings: can the recently rebooted Barts North Wing, Dr Johnson’s House, Shoe Lane Library, or the Festival of Words win over the judges?
Foodies will have their work cut out in the 'Best Sandwich' showdown between Basils, Dauns, and Porterford Butchers. Traditionalists, on the other hand, can cast their votes for 'Best Boozer', with Old Doctor Butler’s Head, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, The Cockpit, and Jamaica Wine House all gunning for the top spot. And a new kid on the block – or rather, a category – is 'Best Retailer', which shines a light on the City's diverse shopping scene. Expect lively battles between Bobby’s Flowers, Classic Football Shirts, Daunt Books, and Leonard & Michael Barbers.

What's more, this year's judging panel reads like a who's who of industry A-listers: David Harry, Allen Simpson, Martin Williams, Soren Jessen, Karan Gokani, Emma McClarkin, Chris Galvin, and Jeff Galvin are just some of the big names lending their expertise to the cause. Last year's winners may have won the trophy but they're not eligible for repeat honours – though they do get a say in the judges' deliberations.
