A three-year-old girl from New Tredegar, Caerphilly county, met a tragic end on a family holiday in Majorca after drowning in a swimming pool at their rented villa. Eleri Ellesmere was discovered unresponsive in the water near Pollensa on 24 June, sparking an emergency response that ultimately proved unsuccessful.
The Gwent Coroner's Court heard how Eleri and her family were staying at a two-bedroom property, described as suitable for families, located eight kilometres from Pollensa – a popular destination for British tourists. The villa was equipped with amenities to cater to families, but it remains unclear if there were any safety features or equipment in place to prevent such incidents.
Despite attempts by family members and paramedics to revive Eleri, she sadly passed away the following day at Hospital Universitari Son Espases in Palma. A full inquest into the circumstances surrounding her death is scheduled for 13 April 2027, allowing for a comprehensive investigation into the events leading up to the tragedy.
Eleri's family has been left reeling from their devastating loss, describing her as deeply loved and cherished. An online fundraiser has been established to help cover funeral expenses and provide financial support for Eleri's parents during this unimaginable time, raising over £7,000 towards its £10,000 goal.
