The death of a two-year-old girl who drowned in a garden pond on Christmas Day has been ruled accidental by a coroner.
Isobel Maxwell, from Doncaster, went missing for "a matter of minutes" during Christmas celebrations at her family's new home in Hatfield. She was later found by her father, Aaron Maxwell, in the pond.
Doncaster Coroner's Court heard that Isobel left the house through an open door. Area Coroner Louise Slater noted that it was dark in the garden and part of the fence around the pond had fallen down. The family had moved into the house nine months earlier and had intended to fill in the pond, placing a temporary fence that did not go all the way around.
Isobel's mother, Tamara Wallace, stated that her daughter was a healthy child known as "busy Izzie." Detective Constable Danielle Duncan-Blakely of South Yorkshire Police confirmed that an investigation found no suspicious circumstances.
