Tommy Fury secured a majority decision victory over former strongman Eddie Hall in an exhibition boxing match held at Manchester's AO Arena on Saturday. The contest, which spanned six two-minute rounds, saw Fury receive scorecards of 59-56 and 58-56 from two judges, while a third judge notably scored the fight a 57-57 draw. Despite the outcome, the result will not be added to Fury's professional boxing record due to its exhibition status.
Hall, reportedly weighing approximately 100lb more than Fury, spent much of the bout aggressively pursuing the younger boxer around the ring. Fury, half-brother to heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, largely employed a strategy of movement and sporadic counter-combinations, often utilising the ropes to neutralise Hall's advances. While Hall did manage to land some significant punches, Fury generally demonstrated effective defence and footwork.
The judging panel for the unique contest comprised retired world champion Tony Bellew, heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora, and influencer boxer Chase DeMoor. Their varied scorecards highlighted the competitive nature of the fight, particularly the 57-57 draw which indicated a very close contest in the eyes of one adjudicator.
Following his win, the 27-year-old Fury dedicated his performance to his newborn son, Midas. He also expressed admiration for Hall's unexpected boxing prowess, stating, "Anyone who thinks [Hall] is a strongman who can't box, think again. I've fought a lot of people, including actual journeymen boxers, and he can box."
The post-fight atmosphere briefly intensified when Chase DeMoor entered the ring, leading to a confrontation with Fury. Fury challenged DeMoor to fight his brother, Roman, accusing DeMoor of avoiding a previously arranged bout. Security personnel intervened as tensions rose between DeMoor and Roman Fury.
This exhibition bout follows a series of high-profile crossover fights for Fury, who has previously faced and defeated social media stars such as Jake Paul and KSI. His comments after the fight suggested a potential shift in focus, indicating he would not be actively chasing further influencer boxing matches.
