Tommy Robinson harassment trial begins, accused of 'bullyboy tactics'

Far-right activist Tommy Robinson's harassment trial has started, with the prosecution alleging he used "bullyboy, intimidatory tactics" against two MailOnline journalists.

  • Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is charged with two counts of harassment causing fear of violence.
  • The charges relate to alleged X posts, direct messages, and a telephone call to two MailOnline reporters.
  • The prosecution claims Robinson circulated images of journalists' homes and sent photographers to their addresses.

The harassment trial of far-right activist Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has begun, with a court hearing allegations that he used "bullyboy, intimidatory tactics" to threaten journalists. Robinson, 42, is charged with two counts of harassment causing fear of violence to MailOnline reporters Andrew Young and Jacob Dirnhuber. He denies all charges.

The prosecution, led by barrister Ben Holt, told the jury that Robinson is accused of harassment through X posts, direct messages, and an alleged telephone call on 5 August 2024. During this call, he is accused of telling Young he would visit his house, saying: "I'm coming to get you." He also allegedly messaged Dirnhuber, stating: "I'll be knocking at your door."

The court heard that the alleged actions were Robinson's reaction to MailOnline's coverage of him, which included photos of him on holiday in Cyprus. Holt stated that Robinson circulated images of the journalists' homes on social media, leading to his supporters allegedly threatening them and causing them to fear for their safety, with some reportedly forced to leave their homes or employ security.

Robinson's defence is expected to argue that his family had been put in danger by the Daily Mail's actions. The judge, Mr Justice Cavanagh, instructed the jury of eight women and three men at Southwark Crown Court to disregard Robinson's political views and any opinions they might have about the Daily Mail or MailOnline.
