The Environment Agency has announced that a significant amount of waste has been removed from an illegal site in West Yorkshire. The site, located in Wyke, Bradford, was found to be storing multiple tonnes of rubbish, including fire-damaged trailers and mixed household waste.
Complaints about fly tipping and burning at the site were first made to the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council in 2023. Despite efforts by the council and the Environment Agency to address the issue, the site remained a problem for several years.
Andrew Leadbeater, the site's owner, pleaded guilty to two charges relating to waste offences in April 2026. As part of his sentence, he was ordered to clear the site of all waste by 17 June 2026. The site has now been fully cleared, after a successful court action by the Environment Agency.
The Environment Agency's efforts to clean up the site are part of a broader crackdown on waste crime. The organisation is urging residents to report any suspected waste crime to help prevent similar issues in the future.
Ben Hocking, Area Environment Manager for the Environment Agency in Yorkshire, said: 'Illegal waste operations like this have a negative impact on residents' lives and I'm pleased this site has now been fully cleared.'
