An 11-year-old boy, George Dennis, died when a lorry struck him as he cycled over a zebra crossing, a coroner has stated. George suffered a fatal head injury in the collision, which occurred in Epping Road, Chipping Ongar, Essex, at approximately 16:20 BST on 10 July.
Area coroner Michelle Brown told an inquest opening in Chelmsford that the Tottenham Hotspur fan was "cycling with friends" before his death. He was pronounced dead at Princess Alexandra Hospital at 17:45.
The 48-year-old lorry driver from Derbyshire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until September. The inquest has been suspended to allow Essex Police to continue their investigation, with proceedings set to be reviewed in four months.
George's mother, Emma Dennis, described her son, nicknamed "Twinkle Toes", as having "the kindest heart" and a "one of a kind" personality. He played football for Ongar Juniors and was a pupil at Moreton Primary School. Public donations to support George's family have exceeded £112,000.
