Tourette's campaigner John Davidson has requested to watch the Scottish Baftas ceremony via a video link. This decision follows an incident at the Bafta Film Awards in February where Davidson, whose condition involves involuntary tics, shouted a racial slur.
Davidson's film, 'I Swear', which chronicles his experience growing up with Tourette syndrome in 1980s Scotland, has been nominated for seven Scottish Baftas. The movie previously secured three awards at the Bafta Film Awards in London.
Bafta Scotland has stated it collaborated with safeguarding and inclusion experts to facilitate Davidson's participation in the Glasgow ceremony "in the safest way possible for all." Davidson, who received an MBE in 2019 for his Tourette's awareness work, suggested watching from a separate room with family and friends.
The winners of the Scottish Baftas will be announced on 15 November at a ceremony in Glasgow, hosted by broadcaster Edith Bowman.
