The UK is bracing itself for a sweltering day tomorrow as record-breaking temperatures bring unprecedented travel chaos to the nation's rail networks. Temperatures are predicted to soar, with some areas set to experience heatwaves that could lead to catastrophic track buckling and signalling problems.
Network Rail has sounded the alarm, warning passengers of probable delays and disruptions on rail services due to the extreme heat. In a statement, the organisation urged commuters to check for updates before traveling tomorrow and, if possible, postpone their journeys to avoid the worst of the disruption.
The Met Office has issued its first yellow warning for extreme heat since 2019, with temperatures forecast to reach 35-40°C in some areas. This comes as a result of a prolonged period of hot weather that is expected to continue well into the weekend.
Network Rail's chief operating officer, Nick Duckworth, said: 'We're working closely with our partners to manage the impact of the heat on our network. We urge passengers to check for updates and to consider postponing their journeys if possible.'
