A number of Southeastern train services were cancelled following the discovery of bedbugs in drivers' cabs on 22 September. The rail firm, which operates services in Kent, East Sussex, and Greater London, stated that the affected trains were removed for inspection and treatment.
Carriages on the two affected trains were locked to isolate passenger areas from the cabs. Southeastern confirmed that these trains only remained in service long enough to return to a suitable location for inspection and, if necessary, treatment.
The affected trains were based at the West Marina Depot in Hastings, a terminus for trains from London, with services on this route passing through Battle, Tunbridge Wells, and Sevenoaks. Southeastern's head of drivers, Oly Turner, said that cases were contained to the drivers' cabs and no bedbugs were found in passenger areas.
