The trial has begun in Mexico for three men accused of killing two Australian surfers and an American friend in 2024. The alleged murders took place in a border resort in Baja California.
Australian brothers Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, along with their 30-year-old American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, were reportedly shot dead after being robbed. They were camping in a remote beachside area when the attack occurred, and their bodies were later found hidden on a cliff and burned.
The parents of the Robinson brothers, Martin and Debra Robinson, travelled to Ensenada for the start of the trial. Martin Robinson told reporters, "It's about representing our sons, being here for them. I know they want us to be here." He added, "We want to find out what happened. We want to find out why."
Last year, the girlfriend of one of the accused was sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting she had instigated the robbery.
