A devastating tragedy has struck the Gambian community in the UK, following the deaths of four members of the same family in a car crash on the A38 in Derby. The incident occurred at around 23:00 BST on Saturday, when a red Hyundai struck trees at the side of the road, resulting in the deaths of Abu Camara, 36, his wife, 30, their infant daughter, and an 18-year-old woman believed to be a cousin.

The family, who were on their way back north after attending an event for the Sarahule community in Birmingham, were described as 'selfless' and 'dedicated servants' to their local community. Abu Camara, also known as Buba, was a respected youth leader and mentor to young people through football. He was remembered for his kindness, humility, and selfless service to the community.

The Gambia Welfare Society Leeds has asked people to give the family's relatives strength and patience during this heartbreaking time. A police spokesperson said the relatives of those involved are receiving support from specialist officers and expressed their thoughts and condolences to the family.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 33-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but has since been bailed. Anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the crash is being urged to contact the police.
