Trump's approval rating hits record low of 32% in new polls

Donald Trump's approval ratings have reached a record low of 32%, according to new opinion polls, with a notable loss of support among independent voters and Latinos.

  • A Reuters/Ipsos poll shows President Trump's approval rating at a record-low 32%.
  • The polling indicates a loss of support among independent voters and Latinos who backed him in 2024.
  • An NBC News/Telemundo poll found 59% of Latino voters prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress.

Donald Trump's approval ratings have reached a record low, according to new opinion polls released on Monday, 5 October 2026. A Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates his approval rating stands at 32%, a career low.

The polling suggests a decline in support among independent voters and Latinos, groups that had previously supported him in 2024. This dip in approval could have significant implications for the Republican party, with midterm elections scheduled to take place next month to determine control of Congress.

Before departing for Nebraska on Monday, President Trump dismissed questions regarding his approval ratings, stating, "I’m doing great." He attributed negative reports to CNN and the media.

Separately, an NBC News/Telemundo poll released on Sunday indicated that 59% of Latino voters favour a Democratic-controlled Congress, which is double the support for the party two years prior. This poll also reported that only 24% of Hispanic Americans approve of Trump's performance.

Why this matters: The decline in President Trump's approval ratings, particularly among key voter groups, could have significant implications for the Republican party in the upcoming midterm elections that will determine control of Congress.
