Tui Airways has been ranked among the worst UK airlines for punctuality in 2025, with its flights experiencing an average delay of 20 minutes and 24 seconds. The airline's struggles with on-time performance have left many passengers frustrated, particularly those who faced a 46-minute wait on the Birmingham to Zante route – significantly higher than the overall average.
Analysis of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) data shows that Tui Airways was ranked fifth worst for punctuality among 34 airlines operating from UK airports in 2025. Air India held the bottom spot for the second consecutive year, with an average delay of 36 minutes and 36 seconds. Criticism has been levied at Tui's handling of delays, with Which? Travel editor Rory Boland saying that passengers are entitled to clear communication about their rights and eligibility for compensation.
Tui Group's director of communications, Aage Dunhaupt, acknowledged the airline's focus on minimising delays, stating that every minute counts for holidaymakers. He also noted Tui's policy of operating delayed flights rather than cancelling them, which can impact punctuality rankings but ensures passengers reach their destinations.
According to CAA analysis, airlines must provide timely assistance and uphold passenger rights in the event of long delays. Passengers are entitled to compensation of up to £520 if their delay is deemed within the airline's control – such as an aircraft fault or pilot sickness. Scandinavian Airlines stood out for its excellent punctuality record, with just eight minutes' average delay.
As UK travellers plan holidays to popular destinations like Greece, it's essential to be aware of potential delays and know your rights. Check flight status before travelling, consider comprehensive travel insurance that covers delays and cancellations, and understand the rules around compensation for passengers.
