Fans of the popular TV and movie tracking app TV Time, facing its imminent closure, have been offered a new digital home with the announcement of Bingers. Antonio Pinto, one of TV Time’s original founders, has revealed he is developing a successor application designed to replicate the best features of the original while addressing its past operational challenges.
TV Time, which has amassed over 26.4 million lifetime installs globally, including a significant user base in the UK, is winding down as its current owner, Whip Media, shifts focus towards artificial intelligence. This decision sparked a petition against its closure, garnering over 25,000 signatures. Pinto, who sold his initial iteration of the app, then called TVShow Time, in 2016, expressed his sadness at the shutdown, highlighting the strong community aspect that many users, including himself, cherished.
Bingers aims to provide a direct migration path for existing TV Time users. A crucial feature will be the ability to import watch histories and even recreate community discussions from TV Time archives. This data can be exported by users via a GDPR-compliant tool before TV Time is removed from app stores on 15 July 2026. The archive import functionality is already live on the Bingers website, allowing users to prepare for the new app's launch.
A key improvement in Bingers, according to Pinto, is its redesigned architecture, focusing on efficiency and cost-effectiveness. TV Time reportedly suffered from performance issues and high server costs, with premium subscriptions covering only a fraction of these expenses. Bingers is engineered to be more sustainable, promising faster response times for users, even during peak activity, and a more stable experience overall.
The new app is anticipated to be available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play by the end of July 2026. For now, interested users can sign up for a waiting list on the Bingers website to receive alerts upon its official launch. This development offers a lifeline to a dedicated community seeking to continue tracking their viewing habits and engaging with fellow enthusiasts.
