A man's body was discovered in a suitcase in woodland near Borstal, Kent, sparking a major police investigation and the arrest of two men suspected of murder. The grim find comes after officers responded to reports of a potential homicide at a block of flats in Wandsworth, south-west London, on Thursday evening.
Police were called to Kingfisher Court, off Queensmere Road, at around 10:55 PM BST on Thursday, following concerns that someone had been harmed. Although no one was present at the property, evidence suggested that a serious incident had occurred and prompted a full investigation into the matter.
The inquiry quickly developed when two men, aged 27 and 32, voluntarily attended Medway police station in Gillingham, Kent, on Friday. They were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder, and later that same day, officers located the body of a man in a suitcase within a wooded area of Borstal.
While formal identification is yet to take place, authorities believe they know the victim's identity and have informed his next of kin, who are receiving support from specialist officers. The Met Police confirmed that the victim and the two arrested men were known to each other.
Detective Inspector Ben Dalloway, leading the investigation, expressed his condolences to the victim's family and praised the speed of the inquiry. "This has been a fast-moving investigation, and we are working tirelessly to establish the exact circumstances of the incident," he said, adding that thoughts remain with the victim's family during this difficult time.
