Kent Police have arrested a 38-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman following a fire at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone on Saturday. Both individuals, from the local area, have since been released as inquiries into the blaze continue.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours at the Marine Parade hotel, is being treated as suspicious. Police are appealing for witnesses and road closures remain in place for investigation work.

Around 280 people were evacuated from the hotel, and an additional 90 residents were relocated from Pavilion Court in Marine Terrace due to safety concerns. Folkestone and Hythe District Council is arranging alternative housing while the hotel undergoes assessments.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent 26 fire engines to the scene and believe the fire originated in the building's basement. Britannia Hotels Group, which operates the Grand Burstin, stated it is cooperating with the police investigation.
