British boxing star Tyson Fury made a surprise appearance at a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event hosted at the White House on Sunday. The former world heavyweight champion arrived wearing a distinctive cap featuring the slogan 'Donald Trump for Prime Minister', alongside both UK and US flags, drawing significant attention.
The event, which coincided with former President Donald Trump's 80th birthday, saw Fury emerge to the sound of Kings of Leon's 'Sex on Fire'. He was dressed in a black suit, reportedly 'bedazzled', as he made his way to the ringside. This marks Fury's first visit to the United States since 2021, adding to the unexpected nature of his presence.
Staged on the White House's South Lawn, the administration had erected a temporary ring and seating for approximately 4,500 attendees. A large temporary arch, dubbed 'The Claw', was also part of the setup, commemorating 250 years of American Independence. During his time cageside, a UFC broadcaster hinted at an upcoming announcement involving Fury and UFC boss Dana White, further fuelling speculation among fans.
Fury also addressed the crowd, expressing his desire to fight fellow British boxer Anthony Joshua in the future. This statement reignites the long-standing saga surrounding a potential bout between the two heavyweights, a fight that has been anticipated by boxing enthusiasts for over a decade.
The connection between Fury and Trump is not new. Following some of Fury's championship victories, Trump has publicly commended the boxer and extended invitations to the White House on previous occasions. Fury himself has drawn parallels between his own career and Trump's political journey, notably adopting the slogan 'Make boxing great again' in the past, echoing Trump's well-known campaign motto.
Beyond his boxing career, Fury and his family have become prominent figures in reality television. His half-brother, Tommy Fury, gained public recognition as a runner-up on the 2019 series of Love Island with his partner Molly-Mae Hague. The family also features in the Netflix reality series, 'At Home with the Furys', providing further insight into their lives outside the boxing ring.
