Airports across the UK are experiencing disruption today, 8 September 2026, due to a technical issue affecting air traffic control services provided by Nats. The issue is impacting departing flights at a minimum of 15 airports.
Nats stated it is investigating the problem and that engineers are on site. An update will be provided as soon as possible. The organisation handles 2.5 million flights annually.
Affected airports include London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City, London Southend, London Stansted, Edinburgh, Bristol, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Southampton, Jersey, Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham, and Belfast City. Arriving flights are not currently impacted at some of these locations.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority advises passengers to check with their airlines before travelling. Airlines are expected to provide food, drink, or accommodation in the event of delays or cancellations.
