Departures from a number of UK airports, including Heathrow and Gatwick, have been affected by a technical problem impacting air traffic control provider Nats. Heathrow initially paused departures around lunchtime, with further stop-start disruption in the afternoon, though incoming flights have been landing as normal.
Gatwick and East Midlands airports are also experiencing issues, while Manchester Airport has warned of potential delays to some departing flights. Edinburgh Airport stated that its operations might be affected.
Nats has identified the problem within its flight processing system and stated that engineers are working urgently to resume normal operations. Flights are still departing and airspace remains open, but recovery is expected to take some time. Nats apologised for the delays and advised passengers to check their flight status with their airline.
