The United Kingdom and Canada have announced a renewed AI security partnership, enhancing their collaboration on artificial intelligence security. The partnership will focus on sharing information regarding frontier AI risks and capabilities, best practices in AI evaluation, and exploring staff exchanges and coordinated evaluations.
This renewed agreement builds upon the UK-Canada Science of AI Safety Partnership from May 2024 and the UK-Canada Growth and Innovation partnership signed in 2025. It aims to combine Canada’s AI research strengths with the UK’s expertise in AI testing and evaluation to understand and respond to emerging risks.
The partnership will prioritise action in three key areas: collaborating on interoperable AI security standards, enhancing information-sharing arrangements through channels such as Five Eyes, and expanding technical cooperation, including regular exchanges on frontier AI capabilities and evaluation methodologies.
Prime Minister Burnham committed to making AI central to the UK’s G20 Presidency next year, as stated in a speech at the UN General Assembly last month. Prime Minister Carney also signed the Call for Control of Frontier AI Models, launched at the UN General Assembly on 21 September.
