UK and Germany strengthen defence industrial cooperation in London talks

The UK and Germany have deepened their defence-industrial cooperation during recent talks at Lancaster House in London.

  • Talks at Lancaster House focused on strengthening defence-industrial cooperation between the UK and Germany.
  • The discussions built on the Trinity House Agreement and Kensington Treaty, covering air, land, sea, and space domains.
  • A key initiative discussed was Deep Precision Strike, a joint effort to develop long-range strike capability.

The UK and Germany have strengthened defence-industrial cooperation following talks held at Lancaster House in London. The discussions involved Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry Luke Pollard and German counterpart State Secretary Jens Plötner, alongside industry leaders.

These talks advanced work on industrial collaboration and new technology, building on the Trinity House Agreement, signed in October 2024, and the wider Kensington Treaty from July 2025. These agreements provide frameworks for bilateral cooperation across air, land, maritime, cyber, and space domains.

The Ministerial Group on Equipment and Capability Cooperation (MECC) meeting reviewed progress on joint defence capability programmes. A flagship programme on the agenda was Deep Precision Strike, a joint initiative aimed at developing long-range strike capability.

The talks follow a visit by the Prime Minister to Berlin on 8 October, where the UK and Germany agreed to deepen space cooperation and establish a new Counter-Hybrid Partnership. Minister Pollard and State Secretary Plötner also participated in a panel discussion at the German Embassy in London to assess defence-industrial progress.

Why this matters: The cooperation aims to address critical capability gaps and strengthen NATO's deterrence, contributing to Euro-Atlantic security.
