The UK and India have agreed new science and innovation partnerships following the 8th UK-India Science and Innovation Council meeting in New Delhi. Dr Jitendra Singh, India's Minister of State for Science and Technology, and Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP, UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, reaffirmed their ambition for a deeper strategic partnership.
India's Department of Science and Technology will invest an additional £3 million over five years into the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source partnership. This funding aims to expand access for Indian researchers, support early-career development, and strengthen collaboration in advanced materials, physical sciences, and multidisciplinary research.
New initiatives launched include the UK-India Technology Translation Partnership, connecting UK Catapults with India’s Science and Technology Clusters. The InnoXchange Programme was also announced to link start-ups, incubators, and accelerators. Both countries will explore a partnership between Russell Group universities and India’s Technology Innovation Hubs.
Since 2008, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Government of India have jointly invested over £450 million across more than 290 projects. Joint publications have increased by 238% since 2013.
