The UK has announced a new £88 million package of support for humanitarian relief and early recovery in Gaza and the West Bank. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband revealed the funding today at the UN General Assembly, stating it would provide vital aid to Palestinians.
The package is intended to deliver essential healthcare, clean water, sanitation, hygiene services, waste management, and protection support to those affected by the conflict. Specific provisions include medical consultations for up to 900,000 people and rehabilitation for 1,000 children with blast injuries.
Additionally, the UK is co-hosting a meeting at the UN General Assembly alongside Jordan and Qatar. This event brings together regional partners, the United Nations, civil society, Palestinian representatives, and international donors to discuss improving humanitarian access, healthcare, and recovery in Gaza.
Mr Miliband emphasised the importance of unhindered access to aid for civilians in Gaza and urged the Government of Israel to address restrictions on the region.
