The UK is bracing itself for a scorching heatwave today, with temperatures forecast to soar as high as 33C in some areas. The Met Office has pinpointed 25 specific locations across the country that are expected to experience the most intense heat, primarily concentrated in southern and central England.
Met Office maps show a significant surge in temperatures, marking a notable shift from the more unsettled weather of recent days. The public is advised to take precautions, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
The highest temperatures are expected across parts of England, with London and the South East likely to bear the brunt of the heat, potentially reaching 33C. The Midlands and parts of East Anglia will also experience very warm conditions, possibly reaching 30C.
Further north, in areas like Manchester and Yorkshire, temperatures are expected to be high, around 27C-29C. In contrast, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will also experience warm weather, though generally not reaching the extremes seen in southern England.
The current heatwave is attributed to a plume of warm air moving in from the continent. The Met Office has indicated that the warm spell is likely to continue for several days, with a risk of isolated thunderstorms developing towards the end of the week as the air mass becomes more unstable.
