The United Kingdom has strongly condemned recent Houthi actions, including attacks against Saudi Arabia and escalated military operations within Yemen. Ambassador Kate Foster, UK Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, stated at the UN Security Council that the Houthis bear full responsibility for the escalation.
Overnight Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia have reportedly injured 13 civilians, damaged homes, and disrupted commercial aviation. The Houthis have also sought to consolidate control along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and around the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, posing a direct threat to international shipping routes.
The humanitarian consequences of these actions are becoming increasingly severe, with over 126,000 people displaced and warnings of rising food insecurity and health needs. The UK also expressed deep concern over reports of increasing civilian harm and disrupted humanitarian access.
The UK called for the immediate and unconditional release of humanitarian, UN, and diplomatic mission personnel detained by the Houthis. The UK statement also highlighted Iran's longstanding support to the Houthis as enabling attacks that threaten civilians, neighbouring states, and maritime security.
