Lisa Hogan, partner to Jeremy Clarkson at Diddly Squat farm, has cautioned that the UK could experience beer shortages. Her warning follows a summer of drought which has led to a poor barley harvest.
Hogan stated there would be “less beer all around” as a result of the extreme weather. She noted that while last year's yields were poor, the quality was better, but this year, after a second consecutive year of dry weather, both the harvest and its quality have suffered.
The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) projects that this year's barley harvest will be the worst on record. Farmers are reportedly struggling to secure sufficient water for their land.
