Diesel prices in the UK have reached an all-time high of 199.18p per litre, according to motoring organisation RAC. This surpasses the previous record of 199.09p set in June 2022.
The increase is attributed to the ongoing war in the Middle East, specifically the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which has disrupted wholesale oil production and transportation over the past seven months. Petrol prices are also rising, currently standing at 174.13p per litre.
RAC's head of policy, Simon Williams, stated that the record diesel price indicates difficulties for drivers and for consumers of goods and services that rely on diesel transport. He added that these increased costs are likely to be passed on to consumers. Williams also noted that pump prices will only decrease with a sustained period of lower oil prices, lasting several weeks rather than days.
