The UK government has launched a resilience campaign, advising households to prepare for unknown threats by maintaining a three-day supply of food and water. This initiative comes as there has been no national food stockpile in the UK since it was discontinued in the 1990s.
The campaign's advice includes having three litres of drinking water per person per day. However, the effectiveness of a three-day supply is questioned, given that potential emergencies such as power outages, extreme weather, and floods may not be resolved within such a short timeframe.
The current context also highlights that one in eight households, or one in six with children, already experience food insecurity, meaning they are not always sure they have enough food, even without external events.
