UK holiday options for late summer include Gleneagles and Francis Hotel

As summer nears its end, a range of UK holiday options are available, from luxury estates to city breaks.

  • Gleneagles in Perthshire is described as Scotland's most famous country estate hotel.
  • The Francis Hotel in Bath completed a £15m renovation of its 98 bedrooms this year.
  • Avington Estate in Winchester offers stays in Stillwaters House or lakeside Shepherd’s Huts.

With summer drawing to a close, various UK holiday destinations are highlighted for late-season breaks. Among the options is Gleneagles in Perthshire, known as Scotland’s most famous country estate hotel, offering experiences beyond its Art Deco interiors.

In Winchester, the Avington Estate provides accommodation in the glass-fronted Stillwaters House or lakeside Shepherd’s Huts, which feature private jetties and log-burning hot tubs. The Francis Hotel in Bath, located in Queen Square, recently completed a £15m renovation of its 98 bedrooms.

Other suggested destinations include Mad Swans in the South Downs, described as a new golfing hotel, and Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds, which opened in 2015. The Pig, also in the Cotswolds, offers rustic luxury in historic buildings. The Harbour Beach Club & Hotel in Salcombe, Devon, and The Angel hotel in Abergavenny, Wales, are also featured.

For those seeking a city break, the recently opened Treehouse Hotel in Manchester is highlighted, with rooms designed like treehouses. Broughton Sanctuary in Yorkshire offers retreats and rewilding initiatives within its grounds.
