The UK Home Office has accepted in full three recommendations from an inspection report concerning its Future Borders and Immigration System (FBIS) programme. The inspection, conducted from March to July 2026, assessed the realisation of eight benefits from the major initiative.
The report found that several benefits, such as the implementation of Electronic Travel Authorisations and eVisas, have already been successfully delivered. However, it noted that further work is required to clarify responsibility for ongoing benefits delivery and to embed best practices.
Challenges remain in transforming infrastructure across ports with the cooperation of owners, carriers, and operations staff, and in changing Border Force working practices, culture, and skills. The Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, John Tuckett, stated that work to implement the accepted recommendations is currently under way.
