UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is set to meet the EU's home affairs commissioner, Magnus Brunner, on Monday for further talks. The meeting follows Prime Minister Andy Burnham's recent statement about rejoining European law enforcement databases, from which the UK has been excluded since Brexit.
According to the European Commission, the agenda for the discussions includes migration, border management, law enforcement cooperation, and counter-terrorism. This will be the second meeting between Mahmood and Brunner in two months.
A key focus for Monday's talks will be the UK's potential rejoining of police and security databases, including the new Eurodac database which focuses on migration. The UK also seeks access to the Schengen Information System (SIS), which holds data on missing persons, stolen goods, and fugitives.
Brunner is also scheduled to meet MI5 Director General Ken McCallum and visit the National Counter Terrorism Security Office. He will also meet senior officials from the UK's child sexual abuse centre to discuss joint efforts against such crimes.
