The United Kingdom is observing its inaugural National Day for Victims and Survivors of Terrorism today, 21 August 2026. The Security Industry Authority (SIA) marked the day, stating it stands in solidarity with the rest of the UK to honour those who have lost their lives and those who have suffered harm.
The SIA, as the UK security regulator, acknowledged the courage and resilience of survivors and the families whose lives have been altered by terrorism. The introduction of this National Day follows years of dedicated campaigning by survivors and bereaved families.
The forthcoming Martyn's Law is also mentioned, which is intended to reinforce protective security and preparedness in premises and events across the UK. The SIA stated it will continue to work with various partners to strengthen the UK's resilience against terrorism.
