The UK announced on Monday of this week that it would invest up to £100 million in the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI)’s 3.0 strategy. This strategy aims to support the development of new vaccines to combat pandemic and epidemic threats, including Ebola.
Helen King, UK Ambassador to ECOSOC, stated that the UK is also supporting the Africa-led Ebola response with an investment of £78 million. This funding is intended to strengthen surveillance and frontline health services.
The UK also supports the development of the World Bank’s Day Zero Financing Framework, which aims to provide countries with access to financing for vaccines and treatments when early warning signs of a crisis appear. Additionally, the UK is committed to enhancing multilateral cooperation on health security, including completing negotiations on the WHO Pandemic Agreement’s Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing System.
