The United Kingdom has committed an additional sum of approximately £425,000 (equivalent to half a million Euros) to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe's (OSCE) Support Programme for Ukraine. The announcement was made by Ambassador Holland during a statement to the OSCE's Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC) in July 2026, where the UK representative underscored the critical role of the centre amidst an increasingly challenging geopolitical landscape.
Ambassador Holland's address highlighted the significant strains on international security, directly attributing these to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and its ongoing 'hybrid activity' across the OSCE region. These actions, the Ambassador stated, fundamentally undermine shared security principles and necessitate robust conflict prevention mechanisms. The UK reaffirmed its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova, calling on Russia to respect these international norms and rebuild trust essential for the OSCE's foundational security framework.
The statement also praised the CPC for its pivotal role in providing early warning, delivering timely, fact-based reporting, and facilitating crucial dialogue and mediation efforts. The UK places particular value on these core functions, recognising their impact across the region, including the Transdniestrian Settlement Process and the Geneva International Discussions concerning Moldova and the South Caucasus. The CPC's ability to connect field insights with analysis and dialogue facilitation was described as a critical asset in managing complex regional conflicts.
In addition to the financial contribution for Ukraine, the UK signalled its readiness to engage with other participating states, the Director of the CPC, and the Secretary General on the future structure and focus of the centre. This comes as discussions are underway regarding the organisation and resourcing of the OSCE Secretariat. The UK stressed the importance of ensuring the CPC remains flexible, responsive, and adequately resourced to effectively address evolving security challenges.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) currently advises against all travel to Ukraine due to the ongoing conflict. This updated financial commitment from the UK government reinforces its long-standing support for Ukraine's resilience and its broader commitment to regional stability in the face of Russian aggression. The funding is intended to help Ukraine mitigate the consequences of the conflict and strengthen its civilian institutions.
This latest UK contribution reflects a continued strategic effort to bolster international organisations working to prevent and mitigate conflicts, particularly those stemming from Russian actions in Eastern Europe. It underscores the UK's diplomatic and financial engagement in promoting security and stability in a region deemed critical to wider European peace.
