The UK property market has recorded 966,000 homes sold subject to contract (SSTC) year-to-date in 2026. This figure is 7.5% lower than the 1.044 million homes sold SSTC by this time in 2025 and 2.8% lower than 2024's 994,000.
However, current sales are 10.9% higher than the 871,000 recorded in 2023 and 4.7% above the pre-Covid 2017-2019 average of 922,000. For week 40, 22,600 homes were sold SSTC, a decrease from 23,600 the previous week.
In the rental market, the average rent in October 2026 is £1,737 per calendar month. This is lower than the average of £1,880 pcm in October 2025 but higher than October 2021's average of £1,432 pcm.
The average price per square foot for agreed sales in September 2026 was £338.98, which is 0.2% higher than 12 months prior and 13.7% higher than five years ago.
