The United Kingdom has voiced serious concerns regarding property demolitions, contested ownership, and allegations of police misconduct in Kosovo. A statement today highlighted the importance of protecting property rights and ensuring access to effective legal remedies.
The UK also stressed that law enforcement must operate professionally and accountably, and that decisions affecting communities should be implemented in accordance with the rule of law, protecting the rights of non-majority communities.
Furthermore, the UK welcomed the formation of Kosovo’s new institutions after the June elections and the appointment of a new President. Political leaders are urged to use this opportunity to deliver effective government and advance reforms.
The UK remains concerned by the limited progress towards normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia, calling on both sides to engage constructively in the EU-facilitated Dialogue and implement existing commitments.
