The UK is bracing itself for a sweltering summer, as the Met Office confirms that July temperatures will be above average. A warmer than usual trend is expected to dominate the month, following June's mixed bag of weather patterns.
A closer look at the forecast reveals that England's southern and eastern regions are likely to feel the heat most strongly, with mid-20s Celsius temperatures possible in some areas. Scotland and Northern Ireland will also experience above-average temperatures, although they may be interspersed with cloudier conditions and occasional showers - particularly in the west.
Wales is expected to mirror England's weather patterns, with warm and dry spells predicted for coastal areas, while inland regions may see more variable conditions. Rainfall remains a possibility, but the Met Office suggests it will be localised and short-lived, rather than prolonged and widespread.
A moderate wind speed is forecast, although coastal areas could experience stronger gusts during any unsettled periods. Meanwhile, residents are advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, find shade during the hottest parts of the day (usually between 11 am and 3 pm), and dress lightly in loose-fitting clothing.
Those with underlying health conditions, older adults, and young children should take extra precautions to avoid overheating. Pet owners are also reminded to provide their animals with access to shade and fresh water, particularly during the warmest periods of the day.
