The UK Space Agency has set aside £500,000 to fund innovative climate services, leveraging satellite data to combat the effects of climate change. This latest initiative builds on previous successes, with a focus on practical applications in areas like water resources, human health, and agriculture.
Bids are invited from businesses and organisations for grants worth up to £85,000 each. The call specifically targets forward-thinking ideas that can expand existing markets or create new ones, focusing on the creation of entirely new services or enhancements to current offerings with a clear route to market.
The agency's goal is to foster a thriving commercial sector that translates complex satellite data into actionable insights and tools for climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience efforts within the UK. This funding round demonstrates the UK Space Agency's ongoing commitment to utilising space technology for environmental benefit.
Prospective applicants must submit their proposals by 7 August 2026. The application window opens on 25 June 2026, with an information webinar scheduled for 2 July 2026. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by 31 August 2026, with project kick-off slated for September 2026 and conclusion by February 2027.
A showcase of the projects is planned for March 2027, followed by post-award reviews in September 2027 and March 2028. This latest initiative underscores the crucial role of satellite technology in understanding and responding to climate change, offering tangible benefits for communities and industries facing climate-related risks.
