The UK Space Agency's Unlocking Space for Government (USG) initiative is designed to assist public sector organisations, in both civil and defence sectors, in adopting space-enabled technologies. The goal is to deliver improved, more efficient, and more resilient public services and national security outcomes.
Space-enabled technologies, such as Earth Observation (EO), Satellite Communications (SatCom), and Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), offer significant benefits. These include supporting healthcare and transport infrastructure, enhancing environmental monitoring, and enabling defence capability development.
The USG initiative works across government departments, agencies, and regions to identify and pilot high-impact use cases. It also aims to build public sector capacity and ensure the UK government acts as a strategic customer for these services. The programme also supports UK companies in developing solutions for public sector needs and navigating procurement pathways.
