The UK Space Agency's latest move has sparked interest among industry insiders and academics alike – it's seeking independent members to join its Earth Observation Advisory Committee (EOAC). The agency wants diverse voices to inform critical policy decisions, ensuring the UK remains at the forefront of Earth observation.
Three new positions have been announced: a Chair, a Vice Chair, and an early career representative. Successful candidates will bring their expertise to the table, challenging and debating sector views in a personal capacity. This approach reflects the agency's commitment to receiving candid advice on all aspects of Earth Observation.
The EOAC will work alongside other key groups, including the cross-Government EO Board, established in 2023 for policy discussions. It will also integrate with the UK Space Agency's broader engagement efforts, such as pre-PBEO briefings and workshops throughout the year.
Other members of the committee will be appointed by industry and academic bodies like NERC NCEO, SPAN, UKSpace, and Space4Climate. Ex officio members will also be put forward by the agency and Ministry of Defence. This multi-faceted composition aims to bring together a wide range of expertise and perspectives, reflecting the diverse nature of the Earth Observation sector.
