Britain's newest cohort of high-growth technology companies has collectively secured £3.4bn in funding and employs more than 6,000 people. Tech Nation announced the 50 companies in its Future Fifty 2026 programme on Wednesday, which spans sectors such as AI, fintech, health, defence, and energy.
This year's cohort has raised more than double the £1.4bn secured by the 25 firms in last year's programme. The announcement comes as the government prepares to launch a £1bn UK Scale-up Fund, designed to direct capital from major pension schemes into technology, life sciences, and other expanding sectors.
AI firms are a dominant presence in the latest Future Fifty cohort. Among the largest fundraisers is Cambridge-based CuspAI, which has raised over $650m (£480m) since its 2024 launch for its work in discovering new materials using artificial intelligence. Other notable AI companies include London-based Encord, which secured £80m for data infrastructure, and defence technology firm Adarga, which raised £76m.
The programme requires companies to be headquartered in the UK and meet criteria such as having raised Series B funding or achieving at least £5m in annual revenue or 50 per cent year-on-year growth.
