UK travellers are still being denied boarding for flights to the European Union due to a post-Brexit passport rule, according to reports from Independent Travel. This rule requires passports to have been issued within the previous 10 years on the day of entry into the EU, as well as being valid for an additional three months beyond the planned stay.
One traveller was recently turned away from a flight to Croatia because her passport, despite not having reached its expiry date, was issued more than 10 years ago. Her husband and children proceeded with the trip, while she faced the prospect of missing her holiday and incurring significant costs for an urgent passport and new flights.
Another case involved Celia Jenkins, 78, and her husband Rees, 82, who were denied boarding for a flight to Greece from Bristol airport. Their passports were found to be 10 years and three days old, leading to an estimated £500 in additional expenses and a missed week with family.
