The UK has urged all parties to fulfil their commitments under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, adopted last November, which supported President Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza. Ambassador Sarah MacIntosh, UK Permanent Representative to the UN, stated that while progress has been made, success depends on the actions of the parties.
Key commitments include Israel's phased withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza and Hamas's decommissioning of weapons. The UK also called for a credible Palestinian-led transition of governance and security across the Gaza Strip, encouraging the Palestinian Authority to implement necessary reforms.
Concerns were raised regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where 59% of the population faces crisis levels of food insecurity or worse, and 1.9 million Palestinians remain displaced. The UK called on the Government of Israel to end excessive aid restrictions, open all crossings, and review the dual-use list for vital supplies. Hamas was urged to stop obstructing humanitarian operations, following reported disruptions in July at a UN warehouse and food distribution point.
The UK also addressed the West Bank, reiterating that Israeli settlements are illegal under UNSC resolution 2334. The Government of Israel was called upon to retract construction tenders for the E1 settlement project. The UK expressed alarm over recent settler attacks and the killing of a 17-year-old in Sa’ir, noting that 80 Palestinians and three Israelis have been killed in the West Bank this year.
The UK deemed the decision to bring no criminal action over the April 2024 strikes on a World Central Kitchen convoy, which killed seven staff including three British nationals, as unacceptable. The families of those killed deserve justice, accountability, and answers from the Government of Israel.
