Ukrainian refugee achieves top A-Levels and Durham University place

Oles Kuzomko, who fled the war in Ukraine, has achieved top A-Level results and secured a place to study law at Durham University.

Oles Kuzomko, 18, who arrived in West Yorkshire in May 2022 after fleeing the war in Ukraine, has achieved top A-Level results. He will now attend Durham University to study law.

When Oles, his mother, and sister arrived in the UK, they had only 100 euros and three bags of clothes. His father remained in Ukraine and later died from sepsis.

Oles, who initially spoke only basic English, received an assisted place at Bradford Grammar School. He credits the school with helping him secure his university place. He stated that he is determined to build a future in the UK.
