The Ultimate Championships, a new athletics event, has been hailed as a success, offering compelling viewing and outperforming the Diamond League Final as a television spectacle. The competition featured winners from 18 different nations across its 28 events.
Among the standout athletes was China's 18-year-old javelin thrower, Yan Ziyi, who secured second place at the Ultimate Championships and won the Diamond League in recent weeks. She has reportedly earned over $200,000 in prize money this summer and is expected to be a favourite at the LA 2028 Olympics.
Yan Ziyi is now seen as a key hope for China at the 2027 World Athletics Championships, which will be held at the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing. This will mark the return of the Worlds to the venue that hosted the Beijing 2015 World Championships.
