The University of Cape Town (UCT), a South African Varsity side, is confirmed to join the London City 7s line-up. The team, known as the Ikey Tigers, will be led by South African rugby legend Robbie Fleck, subject to City backing.
UCT has a history spanning over 135 years, having produced more than sixty Springboks, with over twenty of them currently professional players. Notable former players include Eben Etzebeth, who won the Varsity Cup with UCT in 2011, and Siya Kolisi.
The London City 7s event, scheduled for 17 September at the Honourable Artillery Company, will also feature Union Bordeaux-Begles, the Investec Champions Cup holders. In total, nine teams, including professional and historic clubs from around the world, along with three UK invitational challengers, will compete.
Alongside the rugby fixtures, a Sport x Business Conference will run from 9:30 am at the same venue. The conference will be hosted by Heather Fisher OLY and Jim Hamilton, inviting business leaders to discuss aspects of the sport.
