Up to 50 serving Police Scotland officers have been suspended over allegations of violence against women and girls, Chief Constable Jo Farrell has stated. She anticipates that more officers will face sanctions as a result of their conduct.
The suspensions follow a series of convictions of former officers for sexual offences. A review is currently underway into the handling of former officer Alan Greer, who was identified as a serial rapist after his death.
Chief Constable Farrell also noted that approximately 8,000 officers are still to undergo re-vetting under new regulations introduced earlier this year. These new rules allow for officers who fail vetting to be removed from the force.
