Wendell Berry, the US author, farmer, and environmentalist, has died at the age of 92. His daughter, Mary Berry, confirmed on Monday that he died at his home in Port Royal, Kentucky.
Berry was a Kentucky-born author and agrarian whose work celebrated farming communities and warned against the excesses of industrial society. He published more than 40 books, including novels such as Nathan Coulter and A Place on Earth.
His writings influenced figures like author Michael Pollan and chef Alice Waters. Berry was also known for his commitment to clean energy, installing solar units in his home in 2005, and protesting against strip-mining.
